With so many makes and models available on the market today, buying the right bread machine will
require some thought and consideration. If you are planning to buy a bread machine, you will want to consider these
factors before making your purchase.
Dimensions/Size - The size and dimensions are
important when choosing a bread machine. In the beginning when bread machines were first popular, you could only
find bread machines with a vertical pan. This has a drawback in that it tends to leave flour and dough in the
corners. However the designs have improved and, with the addition of the horizontal pan, many people are now
enjoying better options in bread machines. In addition, there are bread machines that are better for smaller or
more compact spaces making them a better fit for a smaller kitchen or when you have limited storage space.
Capacity - You will want to consider a bread
machine that has multiple capacity settings such as a one-pound loaf up to a two-pound loaf. Having the option to
determine what size is best for you at the time can be a plus when selecting a bread machine.
Settings - Many bread machines today have
various settings such as dough setting, pause setting, or fruit and nut addition mid-cycle settings. These types of
settings can allow you to make more customize breads such as fruit and nut breads or pizza dough. You can use the
bread machine to simply make dough for bread or pizza and then bake as needed instead of having the machine bake it
for you. Some consumers prefer the option to only mix the dough and then bake it in the oven. If the bread machine
you are considering has a timer, a white or wheat function, and a dough or bread setting, you are probably looking
at a good buy.
Timer - Timers are a big deal when it comes to
bread machines. You will likely prefer a bread machine that has a delayed timer so you can prepare the dough
mixture and have it start so that the bread is ready at a scheduled time. This can be a great option for preparing
dinner rolls or fresh Italian bread for a dinner.
Noise - You will also want to find out how the
bread machine functions. Since it has a motor, it has the potential of either making a lot of noise or operating
quietly. If you plan to run a bread machine during the day while you are preparing meals you may prefer a bread
machine that quietly operates so you are not disturbed by the kneading process.
Price - Though you can find an inexpensive bread
machine, there are many makes and models with extra bells and whistles that can cost you a lot more. Be sure you
research which extras are important to you so you do not spend more than necessary. Also check on the warranty that
comes with the bread machine so that you have added protection should something happen to the bread machine after
purchase.
